The ASI (American Advertising Specialty Institute) investigated the most cost-effective medium for an advertising campaign, the result: promotional products & business gifts. They did a lot of intersting discoveries during the study. One conclusion was that promotional products are a better way of advertising than an advertisement on TV.
Business gifts and promotional items beat all other media, in terms of cost-effectiveness (Objets publicitaires). First of all, traditional media is very expensive and there is no guarantee of a positive result. The Advertising Specialties Impressions Study found that receiving a business gift is virtually guaranteed to have positive results. Around half of all respondents said that they had a positive/more positive image of the advertiser after receiving a business gift. Moreover, at least 3 out of 4 respondents did business with the advertiser after receiving a business gift.

Further interesting insights have demonstrated the powerful impact of business gifts. For example, two reasons why business gifts are populair by the people is because the people experience it as pleasant to receive a gift and they can also use often. Futhermore, the brand recognition and memorability of your company will increase a lot because 8 out of 10 (80%) of the people will remember the name of the advertiser (brand/company) which provided the business gifts. That is precisely why branding is so important.
One of the best selling and most poluar kind of promotional item are still pens. They are used a lot, maybe on daily or weekly basis, and they have a high memorability and recognition value. A small investigation shows us that pens are used 64 times a month, office accessories are used around 50 times a month, glass and ceramic items 33 times a month and other gifts are used 25 times a month.
